PRIORITISE BUILDING A SUPER-STRONG IMMUNE SYSTEM

Crazy unprecedented times, especially this whirlwind of a week where most of us saw our incomes and livelihoods dwindle down to a dribble and then disappear completely. Which clearly causes chaos and mental anxiety which then causes the body to be weaker, which then affects the mind with fear and reactive impulses, which again affects the body with lower immune system, then an accelerated downward spiral into ill health happens and it becomes incredibly easy for you to get sick.

But breathe easy everyone, as we truly don’t need to panic. Time is now in Abundance, life has slowed right down and become super local, so there is truly no need for those silly supermarket stampedes! Use this time wisely to get creative, educate yourselves and get super healthy, resilient and get strong. Panic buying toilet paper, sugar and dried foods that have ZERO nutritional content won’t help you in the long run.

Realistically worst case scenario is YOU do get the virus (and we all may get this Virus at some point) so it’s best to prepare! My strong advice is to get yourself and your family’s immune system superman strong, healthy and resilient so that you can bounce back quicker.

Here’s my list of 10 easy ways to build your Immune System;

  1. PROBIOTICS; Stock up on these in your fridge; Natural yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi or any other fermented foods are all amazing in building up gut health. Eat as your first thing in the morning to help line the stomach and kickstart digestive system.

  2. GARLIC; Guru! Love it or hate it, it’s incredibly potent in warding off bacteria, viruses and germs. Down to it’s main active compound of Allicin, which is unstable, which means it quickly converts to other sulphur-containing compounds thought to give garlic its medicinal properties

    These compounds have been shown to boost the disease-fighting response of some types of white blood cells in the body when they encounter viruses.

    Swallow one whole every morning or chop and chew it up, let it oxidise so it’s more potent then eat it. Cook everything in it..Personally I’d bathe in it if I could!

  3. ONIONS; another potent natural hero. Eat raw daily if possible in salads, or cut one in half and leave in any room in the house. Onions soak up all airborne germs and bacteria in a matter of hours. Try for yourself and do throw the onion away after you’ve used it as a natural bacterial sponge; NOT FIT TO EAT!

  4. SPINACH; Popeye had a serious point; it does make you stronger. Humble spinach is a superfood thanks to its high content of folate, vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber, magnesium, and iron. The nutrients in spinach boost immune function and provide the body with necessary nutrients for cell division and DNA repair. Best to eat raw or lightly cooked to preserve nutrients.

  5. TURMERIC; Fantastic all rounder for health, carcinogenic also. I add some to warm lemon water first thing in the morning, remember to add a pinch of black pepper as this activates the turmeric so it’s more potent and healing for the body.

  6. MUSHROOMS; I’m personally obsessed with mushrooms, any and all varieties. They are queens of immune regulation and are widely known as Immunomodulators and act like adaptogens, with active ingredient being polysaccharides. Asian varieties are best; shiitake, chaga, reishi and maitake are cream of the crop for immune system. Well worth every penny, even if you can't pronounce them!

  7. ELDERBERRY; Teas and syrups made from the elderberry plant have been commonly used to fight upper respiratory infections and boost immunity for hundreds of years. There are many different kinds of elderberry plants, but the flowers and berries of Sambucus nigra, commonly known as European elder, are the most studied and used in herbal formulas. Easily accessible at Boots or any pharmacy.

  8. VITAMIN D; Get as much of this as you can in your system! Best way is to get some rays on your face, Sunlight triggers the skin’s production of vitamin D, half an hour a day is all you need. If like me you live in Northern hemisphere and sun is a memory in your mind, get a decent Vitamin D supplement and take daily.

  9. SLEEP; Getting enough quality sleep helps manage stress. Sleep deprivation and stress overload increase the hormone cortisol, prolonged elevation of which suppresses immune function and can cause a domino effect of ill health. If you personally struggle with sleep, drop me a line as I’m queen of sleep and have at least 3 guaranteed remedies to get you drifting into dream-space in no time.

  10. YOGA + BREATHWORK; Yes I may be biased with this one, but yoga has huge health benefits and many articles have surfaced stating that nurses and doctors are managing their stress levels with Yoga. A reminder in case you needed it;   yoga an breathing practices have a conditioning effect on the lungs and respiratory tract, stimulating the lymphatic system to push out toxins from the body, while bringing fresh oxygenated blood to our organs and cells to ensure their optimal function. Yoga also has a proven anti-inflammatory effect on the body.

Try in next few days while we’re all in lockdown, no doubt you’ll feel better for it. We are all in this together.

Do share please especially if you know of any other immune boosters!
