I AM ORPHAN

I am Orphan, thank you for giving me life and leaving..

I am Orphan, it's your lives and lies I'm now grieving.

Early days, who knows what my dad felt, heard or saw..

He was forever banished to the rungs of drunk and poor.

Nothing he said made sense back then he was my lying father

as I saw the world through the scared eyes of my dying mother

Now without either present to colour my worldview,

I can start to see things void of charge, pure and true.

The ripples of stones they threw at each other finally subsiding

Hadn't known how many waves they caused, I was still riding.

Who are you when the music stops and they all stop breathing?

Who am I when my story's mine to tell, not you leading?

I am Orphan, newly hatched from the shell of your pain..

I am Orphan, round the merry-go-round we go again.

This time it's with fresh, alert and awakened eyes

Remembering what I came here for, not that sorry disguise

I am Orphan, thank you for giving me this life and leaving..

I am Orphan, it's your lives and lies I'm now grieving
